Lithuanian Music Teachers Association (LMMA)

The Lithuanian Music Teachers Association is an organization which unites music teachers of pre-school institutions, comprehensive , music and art schools, and gymnasiums, music pedagogues from universities and colleges as well as scientists. The association was founded in 1936 in Kaunas at the Lithuanian Music Society. The restored conference of the association was held in Klaipeda on the May 8th, 1996.

The goals of the Association are:

  • To assemble Lithuanian music pedagogues to professional cooperation in the field of education;
  • To develop scientific, methodological, artistic and creative activity;
  • To disseminate the progressive experience of music education;
  • To propagate urgent problems of music art and music education in society;
  • To present proposals about the directions of music education development;
  • To take care about professional, artistic and creative existence matters of music pedagogues, to protect their interests.

In LMMA there are such sections functioning:

  • Scientific-methodological section;
  • The section of artistic activity;
  • Orff section;
  • The relations with foreign allied organizations;
  • The section of early music education.

At present LMMA unites about 400 members. There are departments in Kaunas, Vilnius, Panevezys, Siauliai, Telsiai, Alytus. The president of LMMA – dr. Ruta Girdzijauskiene, professor of Music Pedagogics Department of Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Klaipėda Faculty. The vice-president of LMMA – dr. Sandra Rimkute-Jankuviene, professor of Music Pedagogics Department of Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Klaipėda Faculty.
